Elithia Britt is a self-taught visual artist based on Long Island, New York, whose work explores the intersection of color, light, and geometric form.

Her path to geometric abstraction was one of deliberate discovery. For years she experimented freely across nearly every single approach available to her in acrylic painting—testing and expanding her creative vocabulary—before arriving at the precise, luminous geometric language that defines her work today.

In an abstract sense, each painting is autobiographical. Every piece carries within it the memories of moments—both small and large—that were contemporaneous to its creation. The paintings are not illustrations of these moments, but they are inseparable from them as is reflected in the mood and tone that they each convey. To own one is to hold, unknowingly, a fragment of a life being lived.

Rooted in a lifelong fascination with the natural world, music, and the cosmos, Britt’s paintings carry both intellectual depth and emotional resonance. Her spectra series—inspired by a study of cosmology—explores the way light and color radiate from the stars, with each geometric plane representing a different frequency of the same extraordinary source. Even the black planes in her work are mixed with color, a philosophical statement that absolute darkness cannot exist—that nothing is always touched by something.

Her geometric sensibility also draws from a deeply personal place—the quilting traditions passed down through the generations of women in her family, translated from fabric and thread into canvas and paint.
